China's GrenTech Wins WLAN AP, RF Module Orders

GrenTech, a Shenzhen-based supplier of wireless coverage products, announced on January 17 that it has signed a preliminary agreement with China Telecom, whereby GrenTech will supply China Telecom with WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network) APs (Access Points) in the province of Guangdong in 2008.
China Telecom's WLAN network is projected to meet the surging demand for data services, especially for the imminent 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games and the 2011 World Universidad in Shenzhen, Sina Tech News reported. Other than this new project, GrenTech also participated in China Telecom's wireless network projects in the provinces of Hunan, Sichuan, Jiangxi, and Guangxi in 2007, in a bid to become China Telecom's qualified WLAN AP supplier in the said provinces. In addition, GrenTech has also been selected as one of the WLAN equipment supplier for China Mobile during the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
In related news, GrenTech announced on January 15 that the company has landed an order with an estimated value of 100 million RMB (US$13.8 million; US$1 = 7.2 RMB) from an unknown company, believed to be a renowned Chinese base station equipment supplier, Xinhua-PRNewswire reported. Pursuant to the agreement, GrenTech will provide the unnamed company with RF (Radio Frequency) modules, most of which are slated for delivery in the first half of 2008. Aside from this unknown client, GrenTech's existing RF module clients include Huawei and ZTE, according to the same report.
